What's fun in Room 1?

New friends, new learning

Recently we had some new friends who started in room 1. One of the first things we learn to do is write our name correctly. We play games where we make our names from magnetic letters and jumbled up pieces of paper. Then we use the whiteboards to practise writing our names. Regular practise means we get very good at mastering this step in literacy. From the photos I think these boys are doing very well, don't you?

Wonderful windmills

As part of our inquiry topic we have been investigating things that use power. We made windmills using card, straws and wooden sticks. Then went outside to run around with them. The wind did an excellent job of turning them and it was great fun too.

Worm words

This week we are studying the letter 'w'. Miss Lowther tricked us and said that she was going to bring in some worms for us to eat today- just like Mrs Twit did! But as you will see from the photos they were not worms after all (phew). First of all we practiced making our names and other words on the tables then we put them onto plates. We had lots of fun making worm words. Can you read the words we created? Before we went home we were lucky enough to get to eat some more spaghetti with yummy tomato sauce. Mmmmmmmmm!

My dad

We read the book 'My Dad' by Anthony Browne and used it as inspiration to write about our own dads. We wrote about what our dads looked like, what they liked to do and what we enjoyed doing together. Here is our writing with our brilliant portraits too.

Pyjama day

Today we had pyjama day and started it off with a shared breakfast of fruit, crumpets, crackers and popcorn. Then we snuggled up in our sleeping bags, duvets and pillows for some relaxed story telling. Our teddies enjoyed the morning too.

Book week fun

On Monday afternoon we had a book swap. We brought some old books that we no longer read, to school to swap for 'new' ones. The gifted and talented group did a great job of organising and running the event. We got to take home some exciting new books to read!

At the very beginning of term we wrote about the best things we did in our summer holidays. We are all at different stages of learning how to write. Some of us learning to read and use the words we know, write the first sounds in each word, write the first and last sound. We are very proud of our writing and drawings.
